The Church of San Francisco was built in the year 1560 by the Franciscan friars and the pecuniary contribution of some encomenderos.
San Francisco is the second Church to be built in the city, attached to a convent that was originally consecrated to its Patron Saint Bernardino; It is not known who was the founder of the convent but according to documents of the time they prove that the church was rebuilt by Priest Andrés Corzo.
The Franciscans were the first catechists in the territory of Huánuco, taking charge of the first divisions of Indians, founding towns and erecting churches in them.
Located at esq. Jr. Damaso Beraún and Huallayco city of Huanuco.
Currently its architecture is in the neoclassical style, but the decoration of the Golden Altars is in the Baroque style with a series of motifs that constitute the contribution of the artists of the region.

It tends to imitate the Virgin of the Macarena of Spain and the Captive Christ, both are very beautiful and of great expressiveness.
It has 7 altars, where they are: San Bernardino, San Buenaventura, Santa Clara, La Inmaculada, San Francisco, Santa Rosa, and pictures of Santa Gertrudis, Santa Brígida, Sepulcher of Captain Gómez Arias Dávila, in the conquest with whose economic contribution the construction of the Church was possible.
