In a small street, behind the Ungelt courtyard, this church, linked to an important Franciscan monastic community, surprises by its dimensions and the beauty of its interior decoration. Like many Prague churches, in it we find a harmonious combination of Gothic elements of the building with a baroque interior decoration.
The church is linked to the monastery of Franciscan brothers, founded in the thirteenth century. Built at the end of this century, it has enormous dimensions: when we enter inside, we are surprised by the width of its central nave and its height of 30 meters.
The fire that destroyed much of the Old City in 1689 forced the official reconstruction of the building. In the new facade we find three large reliefs, whose scenes represent the apotheosis of St. Francis, Santiago surrounded by pilgrims and the apotheosis of St. Anthony of Padua.
In its interior two masterpieces of baroque art stand out: the painting of the altar that represents the Martyrdom of Santiago and the imposing sculpted funerary monument of the great oratorio of the Order of Malta, Jan Václav de Mitrovice. The vault is decorated with frescoes of illusion.
A macabre and surprising curiosity is the mummified human arm suspended in one of the walls. It is said that a thief tried to steal the jewels of the Virgin and that the statue took his arm. Arm that in the end was cut to be able to release the culprit.

Opening times for tourist visits: every day from 9:30 a.m. to 12 a.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
