Between centuries XVII and XVIII began a period of great works in the building until the year of 1754, but unfortunately in 1755 year of the great earthquake of Lisbon would cause great damages in the church being the main chapel the most affected. Its degradation meant that on March 2, 1763, the Bureau of the brotherhood decided to build a new hospital in addition to its reconstruction, and the work was awarded in early April 1771 and completed on 25 May 1775 with official inauguration the 28 of May.
The following year the church went into work again, constructing and painting the low relief panels on the walls, the windbreaker, the fronton wedges are granite of the region as well as the portal, the main altar is carved golden with the image of Our Lady of Amparo.

This church is the expression of a baroque decorative program that imposes itself on the architectural structure, dedicated to the Lady of Amparo was just built in 1583 and on October 10 was the first mass celebrated by D. António Mendes de Carvalho, Bishop of Elvas.
