Moyobamba, capital of the San Martín region, is located at 860 m.a.s.l and at 96 m.s.n. from the Mayo river.
It was baptized with the name of Santiago de los Ocho Valles de Moyobamba, in July 1540.
Moyobamba is the first city founded by the Spanish in the Peruvian jungle and is located in the beautiful Alto Mayo Valley.
Moyobamba is also known as the "Cradle of the Culture of the Peruvian East" and the former capital of Maynas (capital of the Peruvian jungle).
The city of Moyobamba has a humid temperate climate, just as it is in the entire beautiful Alto Mayo valley. Among its attractions we find a great variety of orchids, wild birds, natural tourist places and the customs and folklore of its people.
Moyobamba is located on a plateau above the Alto Mayo valley, which overlooks its surroundings impressive natural viewpoints. These viewpoints are also known as the tips of Moyobamba and are suitable for photography, family recreation and social events.
Moyobamba has tourist services such as hotels, restaurants, tour operators and tourist recreation. Today, access to Moyobamba is easy through the Pan-American highways from Lima to Chiclayo and the Fernando Belaunde highway, which is paved to Moyobamba and Tarapoto.
