The beginning of its construction dates from the first half of the twelfth century, and continued until the beginning of the thirteenth century. This first building, in Romanesque style, has undergone many changes throughout the centuries. From the Romanesque period date the general character of the facade with the towers and the beautiful Rosacea, besides the body of the church of three ships covered by cannon vault. The vault of the central nave is supported by flying buttresses, being the Cathedral of Porto one of the first Portuguese buildings in which this architectural element was used.
Located in the heart of the historical center, it is one of its main and oldest monuments.
