Puerto Montt Cathedral was built in 1856 and inspired by the Parthenon of Athens. Its immense columns, four of them on the main façade and 12 inside the temple, are made of larch wood, carved in the Doric style of the Greek Acropolis, and on one of its pillars is the cornerstone of the city. Puerto Montt, although the current look of its façade is due to a reconstruction after the 1960 earthquake.
Attached to the cathedral is the Gothic-style Chapel of St. Francis de Sales, which contains beautiful murals.
